The SourceStandard.
How we decide what carries our name. A screen applied at origin, before development proceeds and before a credit is supplied, across four dimensions that extend the ICVCM Core Carbon Principles. Assets that do not pass are not delivered.
01Four dimensions
What every asset is screened against.
- 01 Additionality & permanence The reduction or removal would not have happened otherwise, and it lasts, buffered against reversal.
- 02 Measurement & verification Conservative quantification and independent MRV, increasingly remote-sensed.
- 03 Market & legal integrity Clear title, no double counting, transparent retirement on a recognised registry.
- 04 People & nature Measurable community and biodiversity benefit, aligned to the UN SDGs and evidenced, not asserted.
02In detail
Each dimension, stated plainly.
- Additionality and permanence
- The reduction or removal would not have happened otherwise, and it lasts, buffered against reversal.
- Measurement and verification
- Conservative quantification and independent MRV, increasingly remote-sensed, so the numbers hold under assurance.
- Market and legal integrity
- Clear title, no double counting, and transparent retirement on a recognised registry.
- People and nature
- Measurable community and biodiversity benefit, aligned to the UN SDGs and evidenced, not asserted.
03Documented throughout
One lifecycle, evidenced at every stage.
The standard runs across one lifecycle and is documented at every stage rather than reported once at the end. A client inherits a complete, audit-ready record, not a certificate and a promise.
-
01
Source
Originate at the point of production, in the markets where the scarcest supply is made.
-
02
Screen
Apply The Source Standard at origin, before development proceeds.
-
03
Verify
Independent, increasingly remote-sensed MRV against a conservative baseline.
-
04
Deliver
Transfer with clear title and a complete, traceable record.
-
05
Retire
Transparent retirement on a recognised registry, documented for audit.
04Why it matters
The cost of a credit that later fails is not the price paid. It is the claim withdrawn.
High-integrity supply is scarce and priced at a premium. The Source Standard exists to keep that cost off our clients’ balance sheets.
05Questions
Answered plainly.
It incorporates the Core Carbon Principles and adds our own origin-stage screening, verification and benefit-evidencing requirements.
Yes. Every asset we supply passes the same screen, whatever its origin.
It is not delivered. The screen is applied before development proceeds and before a credit is supplied, so the question is settled at origin rather than after a claim has been made.
