EcoVadis

The medal your customers gate procurement on.

In short

EcoVadis scores suppliers 0–100 across four themes and issues percentile-based medals. Because the medals are a rank recalculated each cycle against an improving population, holding a Gold is continuous work rather than a one-off achievement.

What it is

EcoVadis is a business sustainability rating across four themes — environment, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement — resulting in a percentile score and a medal that large buyers use to assess and gate suppliers.

Why it matters

Major corporates require suppliers to hold or improve an EcoVadis rating, and the medal can decide contract award and renewal. Because it’s percentile-based, improvement has to target the right themes to move.

The bar is competitive and moving: 2025 medals are awarded by percentile — Platinum to the top 1%, Gold the top 5%, Silver the top 15% and Bronze the top 35% — and a score below 30 in any single theme disqualifies a company from any medal (Sunhat, 2026). Scoring weights policies 25%, actions 40% and results 35% (Your Carbon Steps, 2025).

Common questions

There is no fixed score. Medals are percentile-based — Platinum is the top 1%, Gold the top 5%, Silver the top 15% and Bronze the top 35% — and the ranking is recalculated each cycle against a population that keeps improving. Last year’s Gold score can be this year’s Silver.

Because the medal is a rank, not an absolute. If the assessed population improves and you stand still, you move down. This is the single most common surprise and the reason improvement work is continuous.

Actions, at 40%, ahead of Results at 35% and Policies at 25%. Policies alone score poorly — the methodology is looking for what you have implemented, with evidence.

Yes, outright. Any single theme scoring below 30 disqualifies you from a medal regardless of the overall score, which is why a targeted approach beats a general one.

Environment; Labour and Human Rights; Ethics; and Sustainable Procurement — roughly 21 criteria in total, weighted by what is material to your sector and size.

Yes, but from 2026 every external use has to link to your EcoVadis Recognition Page.
