Why it matters
Large buyers increasingly require product-level data to decarbonise their own Scope 3 and to gate procurement. Product-level embedded emissions also sit at the heart of CBAM declarations, where verified data beats punitive defaults.
The CBAM link makes this financial, not cosmetic: since 1 January 2026, the quality of product-level emissions data directly determines an importer’s cost — without reliable data, more expensive default values apply (European Commission; Gerlach Customs, 2026).
